Florence + the Machine Gives Life to GoT Lore
As the credits for “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” rolled, both Game of Thrones book fans and Florence + the Machine lovers were in for a pleasant surprise: a cover of Podrick’s tune, “Jenny of Oldstones.”
“The song is in George’s [R.R. Martin] books, at least the first verse is,” shared series co-creator and executive producer David Benioff. “We added some lyrics and Ramin [Djawadi, the show’s composer] came up with the music for it.”
In the actual episode, during an emotional montage, Podrick Payne (Daniel Portman) sings for a group of fan-favorite characters as they try to distract themselves from the impending battle. When asked about having to sing “Jenny of Oldstones” Portman said: “It was terrifying! It was totally unexpected. I hope it’s a nice moment in the season.”
