The 'For The Throne' Album Is Here

Artists including The Weeknd, SZA, Ellie Goulding, X Ambassadors and more took their fandom to the next level and wrote and performed for the first studio album inspired by GoT’s characters and storylines. For The Throne (Music Inspired by the HBO Series Game of Thrones) is now available for purchase and to stream.

    SHALL WE BEGIN?

Lead singer of X Ambassadors, Sam Harris, knew his song “Baptize Me” had a place somewhere — just not his group’s album. Harris shopped around the track and he soon found himself writing several songs inspired by one of his favorite shows.

“The show is dripping with material for songs,” said Harris. “Ricky [Reed, Executive Producer] and I used the themes for a starting point, and for each song we would stumble upon a line and phrase we liked and we would connect it to a character.”

    POWER IS POWER

In addition to X Ambassadors’ track, Harris co-wrote the album’s lead single “Power is Power,” and many other songs on the album. “It’s Jon Snow’s song, but it’s also Daenerys and a little bit of overarching themes of the show,” offered Harris.

    WOLF AT YOUR DOOR

Harris co-wrote the song with the sister duo Chloe x Halle and Reed. He explained, “We didn’t have a song that really encapsulated the spirit of Sansa and Arya’s relationship yet... It’s reflective of where these women have landed in the show. They have both been hardened by war and loss and betrayal — yet still have a moral compass.”

    HOLLOW CROWN

“That is fully a Cersei and Jaime song,” Harris shared. “It’s this idea of how Jaime felt he was going to be there with Cersei no matter what, but she pushed him away because she’s so power hungry.” To Harris the track, performed by Ellie Goulding, encompasses Jaime’s views that Cersei is “fighting a losing battle.”

Additional performers on the album are: A$AP Rocky, James Arthur, Jacob Banks, Joey Bada$$, Lennon Stella, Lil Peep feat. Ty Dolla $ign, Maren Morris, Matthew Bellamy, Mumford & Sons, ROSALÍA feat. A.CHAL, The Lumineers, The National, and Travis Scott.

New episodes of Game of Thrones premiere Sunday at 9 PM.
