This time, gender-swapped heroines Fionna and Cake will be in the spotlight with a new ten-episode series for HBO Max. Fionna and Cake originated in the Adventure Time Season 3 episode of the same name, appearing as gender-swapped versions of Finn and Jake ultimately revealed to have been invented by Ice King for a fan fiction. The alternate universe storyline, which included gender-swapped versions of much of the show's main cast, was a hit with fans, and was returned to in multiple subsequent episodes. The last Fionna and Cake episode of the main series implied there was more to the duo than just being a product of the Ice King's imagination, and it's likely we'll see those questions explored in more depth in the new spin-off show.
