The Eternals are an ancient race of superbeings, who have watched over the Earth for thousands of years to protect them from their evil nemesis, the Deviants. It seems the return of half the world's population at the end of Avengers: Endgame has led to the Deviants' return, and so the Eternals must reconvene to stop them. The movie is directed by Nomadland's Oscar-winner Chloe Zhao, and the trailer suggests she will bring a different, more naturalistic visual style to many other MCU films. Of course, it's still a big Marvel movie, so there's plenty of spectacular cosmic action and humor, as the Eternals take some weird and scary-looking adversaries.
